twenty-four, I was one of five candidates out of six hundred
applicants selected to fly to New York City to interview
for one of the most prestigious national positions in the
cosmetics industry. Keep in mind this was in the early
80’s. I was a naïve twenty-four, lacking in
self-esteem and insecure about my talent. I remember thinking, “How
did I get here?” I might not have realized it then,
as I do now, but my image said I could do the job.
